A Solid Future

A Solid Future is a 2D-3D animated short film made by a group of students as a graduation project. It has been selected in multiple international festivals such as Los Angeles Film Awards, AIMAFF, WEIRD Market and Cannes Indie Shorts Awards.
I worked as co-producer, visdev artist, background painter, color script artist, character and prop designer and 2D animator.
It has not been released yet as we are finishing our festival run. However, you can take a look at pur instagram account: @asolidfuture.shortfilm

BG Painting
We took inspiration in the simple and graphic style of UPA animation but we also wanted to go further and create a unique style, adding geometrical figures all over the place to create depth, playing with textures using tradicional-like brush strokes and exaggerating the subjective use of color.

Color Script
Our main reference was The Incredibles ‘ colorscript. We used geometrical simple shapes to represent characters and the elements on the background in order to prioritize mood and storytelling.

Character and prop design
For the characters’ style, we wanted to make a contrast between the polygonal shapes of the background and the softer and rounder silhouettes of the characters, emphasizing their innocence. On the props we displaced the color outside the line art to create visual interest.
